In ancient Greek cosmology, Gaia (Gaea) is the primordial personification of the Earth. In Hesiod's Theogony, she emerges near the beginning of creation and becomes the mother of numerous divine beings, including the Titans.
The idea of Gaia as an Earth Mother has continued to inspire artistic and spiritual traditions over the centuries. This statue draws on that enduring image of the Earth as a nurturing source of life, pairing Gaia with her child to emphasize the bond between parent and offspring and the continuing cycles of nature.
