Bloodstone History and Uses:
Bloodstone, also known as Heliotrope, is a type of Chalcedony that varies in color from dark green to bluish-green to black with red, yellow, or white spots. The yellow-spotted variety is called Plasma. Bloodstone has been used for seals and amulets since ancient times, and its use in healing dates back 5000 years to ancient Mesopotamia. Warriors favored this stone because it was believed to staunch wounds and increase courage. During the Middle Ages, the red inclusions of iron oxide or Jasper in this Chalcedony stone were thought to be spots of Christ's blood, which gave these stones magical powers of protection.
