    Element: Wind

    Zodiac Signs: Virgo, Gemini

    Number: 2

    Howlite Crystal Healing Properties:

Howlite is a calming stone helping to relieve rage by absorbing your anger or that directed toward you from others. It can aid in insomnia caused by an overactive mind and help to overcome criticalness and selfishness. Placed on the third eye Howlite can help you meditate, connect with higher spiritual consciousness and access past lives. It can be used to calm turbulent emotions which have their origins in a past life.

    Howlite History and Uses:

Howlite was named after Henry How, a Canadian chemist, geologist, and mineralogist who identified it in 1868 in Nova Scotia where it was first found by gypsum miners. Because Howlite is porous it is often dyed to replicate Turquoise, Red Coral or Lapis Lazuli. Dyed Howlite is called Magnesite and marketed as Blue Howlite or Turquentine.  It can be distinguished from other stones it was dyed to imitate under UV light because it gives off a slight colored fluorescent glow. The natural white Howlite is sometimes named “white turquoise”, “white buffalo turquoise,” or “white buffalo stone” and is often used in carvings or bead jewelry.

    Howlite Geological Description:

Howlite is a calcium borosilicate hydroxide mineral with a hardness of 3.5. It is rare to find it in crystal form, it most often occurs as opaque white irregular shaped nodules with grey streaks. It is found in California and Nova Scotia.
