    Rhodonite History and Uses:
Rhodonite derives its name from the Greek word “rhodos” meaning rosy which is a reference to its deep pink color.  It was first described in the 19th century but has been used throughout history to decorate objects, and during the Middle Ages, it was used as a talisman to bring happiness and honor. It is found in the Ural region in Russia and a large slab of it was used to build a tomb for the wife of Czar Alexander II, it took 16 years to build and was finished in 1906, it is now in the Peter-and-Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg. Rhodonite can be distinguished from Rhodochrosite by the inclusions of black manganese.

    Rhodonite Geological Description:
Rhodochrosite is a manganese metasilicate mineral with a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5. It mostly occurs in massive or granular habits but can also crystallize in tabular form. Rhodonite frequently contains black inclusions of manganese oxide. It is found in Sweden, Australia, India, Madagascar, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, Canada, and the USA.
