Tiger Eye is named for its resemblance to the flashing golden eye of a tiger. Historically it was used by Roman soldiers on the battlefield as a protection stone and also as an aid in business.

Tiger Eye is a stone member of the Quartz family, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7. It is formed from Hawks Eye through pseudomorphism of Crocidolite in Quartz. Tiger Eye is found in South Africa, India, Burma, Western Australia, and the USA.
