Happy Jizo Monk - Protector of Children

1 item left

Jizo is one of the most beloved divinity figures in Japan. Jizo statues are often portrayed as very cute small monks and can be seen in graveyards, roadsides, and other public places. Jizo is the protector of children, travelers, expectant mothers, and the weak. Jizo guides travelers in both the physical and spiritual realms. But most importantly, he is the protector of deceased children, including miscarried, aborted, and stillborn infants. In Japanese folklore, Jizo hides the soul of dead children in his robes to protect them from demons and guide them to salvation.

He is beautifully sculpted with a happy countenance, with his two palms under his cheeks in an expression of wonder.
