Aragonite History and Uses:
Aragonite, also called tufa and tchazar crystal is named after the Aragon River in Spain where it was first discovered in 1788. Aragonite occurs in a variety of colors including white, grey, reddish, yellow, and blue. Interestingly it forms the skeletons of some marine creatures both living and fossilized and secreted by mollusks it forms the lustrous mother of pearl in shells and nacre in pearls. The most popular Aragonite for metaphysical uses are the reddish star clusters from Morocco or the blue specimens from China. Aragonite was traditionally used to bring a stabilizing effect to adolescents, helping them to be more patient, responsible and channel their energy productively. It was a favorite of Spanish monks who carved it to make their rosary beads.

Aragonite is a calcium carbonate mineral with an orthorhombic crystal system and a hardness of 3.5 to 4. It can be found in Spain, Morocco, China, Greece, Austria, England, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Peru, Pakistan, and the USA.
